How we assess children’s progress

All teachers and teaching assistants have attended specific training about Dyslexia, Autistic Spectrum Condition (known as ASC)
Sensory Processing and Emotional Well-being. They have also attended ‘taster’ training for supportive technology – Clicker 7.

As part of our ongoing programme of staff training and our commitment to sharing information, we assign 1 staff training session
per term for SEND.

Certain classroom support assistants have attended in depth training for the use of clicker 7 to support children in their writing. We also offer training for staff in supporting specific children if required (e.g. selective mutism)

How we assess children’s progress

Children have access to a wide range of assessments in school. We use our online assessment system known as FROG to record
children’s progress in all of the subjects in school. To see your child’s progress and their next steps in learning log in here.

If you are unsure of your log in details please contact office@moorhouse.rochdale.sch.uk or visit us at school and we will be happy
to help you log on.

Bi-weekly

We offer maths and grammar assessments every two weeks to check recent learning in school.

Half termly

We offer assessments every half term in maths, reading, writing, grammar, punctuation and spelling. These assessments measure
the children’s progress and show the next steps in their learning.

Writing Moderations

Every term class teachers share their children’s writing and the assessment of it with teachers from the network of 12 schools
that we belong to. These meetings known as writing moderations are an opportunity for teachers to mark each others children’s
work and check that they are being assessed appropriately.

P scales and PIVATS

The National Curriculum may not be appropriate for all children. In this case we may use P scales to measure their progress. Within some of the P scales of progress there are steps to achieving the P scale know as PIVATS. For example, a child made be working
within P scale 1 in English at the first PIVAT – known as P1e. Once they have completed this PIVAT they will move on to P1d. After P1a, a child will move on a P scale to P2.

For further information on P scales and PIVATS please contact office@moorhouse.rochdale.sch.uk or visit us in school to make an
appointment and we will be happy to help.

Pupil Progress Meetings

The head teacher and deputy head teacher in school, known as the Senior Leadership Team or SLT, will hold meetings at least once a term with class teachers to look at the progress of all children in a class. At Moorhouse we hold these meetings 4 times a year.
This is when each child’s progress is reviewed as well as the next steps in learning for each of the children to make progress.

We will always monitor children and discuss concerns with parents at the earliest opportunity. We will plan a specific approach to
supporting individual needs and where progress is not being made will then look to involve the advice of other professionals e.g.
Educational Psychologist or RANs. (Rochdale Additional Needs Service)
