What are wave 1, wave 2 and wave 3 provision in our school?

Wave 1 provision

This is what we do as a school to help all children in their learning. These include:
• High quality teaching for all (referred to as Quality First Teaching)
• A broad and balanced curriculum
• Universal equipment such as ear defenders or coloured screens
• Visual timetables

Wave 2 provision

When children need more support than wave 1 we offer support in smaller groups called interventions. These interventions are
offered in a number of different ways that a child needs support in; they include:

Maths

• First class at Numbers
• Success at Arithmetic
• Gap teaching using Assertive Mentoring stages
• Precision monitoring


Writing

• Write Dance
• Pirate writing
• Dragon writing
• Reading/Phonics
• Toe by Toe
• Direct Phonics
• Precision Monitoring
• Code X


Reading

• Beanstalk reading
• Reading volunteers
• Speech and language
• Language Link
• Black Sheep resources – see Complex Needs team care plans
• Lego therapy


Social skills

• Dinosaur School
• Rainbow room nurture groups
• Dinner time club
• Peer massage


Gross and fine motor coordination

• Occupational Therapy sessions known as OT
• Playdough disco
• Outdoor learning
• Forest schools
• Physical Education
• After school sports clubs


Wave 3 provision

This is when a child needs one to one support in school.
This may be for a short or longer amount of time and may be in or outside a class.

Some 1:1 support that takes places outside of class:

• Precision Monitoring – smart targets across any area
• Toe by Toe (phonics/reading)
