Year 3/4 Spring Term

 

Things to remember

  • School opens at 8:40am each day and all children are expected to be in class by 8:50am
  • School finishes at 3:00pm
  • Homework is given out on a Friday and should be returned no

later than the following Wednesday

  • PE days are Monday & Thursday (Swimming-Tues AM for Year 4)

For Parents / Carers – Supporting your child at home

Please continue to help your child by

  • Ensuring all possessions, including uniform have names on
  • Encouraging your child to be as independent as possible
  • Listening to them read regularly
  • Practising maths skills, especially times tables 3x, 2x, 5x, 4x, 8x.
  • Encouraging and supporting with homework

  • Week of 23rd March – parental drop ins for guided reading, days / times TBC

  • Wear a hat day – Thursday 26th March (Raising funds for Brain Tumour Research)
  • Year 3 / 4 visit to Touchstones – Wednesday 1st April
  • World Autism Awareness Day – Wear something blue - Thursday 2nd April
  • Last day of term - Friday 3rd April 2020
  • Children return to school – Monday 20th April

Reading

Children will be rewarded for reading at home and this will be celebrated in Friday assembly.

  • Bronze award – 18 books
  • Silver award – 36 books
  • Gold award – 54 books

Children need to bring their record to school each morning for checking.

CurriculumWhat will the children be learning about during this half term?

English

 

We will be reading the abridged version of ‘Alice in Wonderland’ by Emma Chichester Clark. The children will be retelling the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party from the viewpoint of the main character, Alice.

Please support your child in learning their spellings. These will be sent home weekly in preparation for our weekly spelling test each Friday.

 

Maths

 

This half term we will be learning about money, statistics, length and fractions.

Please support your child in learning their times tables and division facts particularly 3x, 4x and 8x.

 

Topic

 

Our topic this half term is a local history study about the Rochdale Pioneers. We will be learning about how the Co-operative was first started by a group of ordinary people on Toad Lane in Rochdale in 1844.
