Curriculumwhat will the children be learning about during this half term?

English – this half term, we will be reading the book ‘Dragonology’. We will use this as a stimulus for our writing. The children will invent their own species of dragon and write a description and non-chronological report about it. They will also write a diary about their exploits as a student dragonologist, and a story about what happens when a dragon comes to school.

Maths – our topics for this half term will be percentages, decimals, algebra and measures. The children will practise converting between different units of measure, and then apply their knowledge to problem solving. We will also be practising our arithmetic skills to prepare for the KS2 SATs.

Topic – we will be learning about the Vikings in a history topic this half term. The children will learn about who the Vikings were and why they came to Britain.

Science – electricity is out topic for this half term. We will be learning about the components of a circuit and factors which affect the brightness of a bulb. We will also draw circuit diagrams using the correct symbols. We will also learn about how the electricity in our homes is generated.
